Dental Pack for each pupil

24th March 2016

A TOOTHBRUSH AND TOOTHPASTE FOR EVERY CHILD AT BROOKFIELDS WILL BE SENT HOME.

Under the NICE guidelines, local authorities now have responsibility for improving the oral health of children.

Despite overall improvements in oral health many children living in the North West still have higher than average levels of tooth decay.

Tooth decay causes pain and discomfort and contributes to children being absent from school to attend dental appointments.   Thousands of children attend hospital each year to have teeth removed under general anaesthetic.

Tooth decay is caused by the frequent intake of sugary foods and drinks. There is evidence to highlight that limiting and reducing the frequency of sugary foods and drinks and regular toothbrushing with a family fluoride toothpaste reduces the risk of tooth decay.

Halton Borough Council in partnership with Bridgewater Halton Oral Health Improvement Team will be distributing packs containing toothbrush, fluoride toothpaste and information leaflet to nurseries and primary schools in Halton. All children aged between 3 and 11 years of age will be given a pack to take home.  Children should be encouraged to brush morning and night using a pea-size blob of the toothpaste.
