Cape Town Visit

8th January 2018

Connecting Classrooms Project

I am delighted to share with you that we have again been successful in our application from the British Council for funding to continue the work that we have been involved in for the last 2 years. This has been joint working with Ocean View Special School in Cape Town, S. Africa. The project to date has involved children working on shared projects and finding out about life in a very different location and also exchange visits of staff; Sam visited Cape Town in 2015 and Farida the head of Ocean View visited Brookfields later on that year. This year will involve exchange visits again and Sara and Judith will visit Cape Town in February half term. We are very excited to go out to see a Special School in a different country and to learn all about their curriculum and teaching approaches as well as finding out about the other challenges they experience. If you would like to know more about the project and see Sam’s pictures from the last visit please visit the British Values section on our school website. We will keep you updated with the work that we are doing as part of this national initiative. The work that we are undertaking is also contributing to our whole school work as part of the International Schools Award and UNICEF Rights Respecting Schools Award. Connecting Classrooms is a global education programme which helps teachers and practitioners to develop their practice, share ideas with other like-minded teachers and develop the skills of their students to become  global citizens.
