Satellite Provision

In September 2019 Brookfields School opened a satellite provision at The Grange School, Runcorn. The purpose of the satellite provision was to enable Brookfields to provide places for the number of Early Years pupils who required a specialist placement at the school. The main school premises were full to capacity and could not cater for an additional class.

The Grange School provided a solution to the issue by offering a large classroom space and outdoor playground area within the Resource Base area of the school. Over the summer holidays 2019, remedial building works were undertaken by Halton Borough Council to ensure that the provision was fit for purpose for Early Years pupils, as this had previously been provision for secondary age pupils.

The Foxes class is a full part of Brookfields School; pupils wear the Brookfields uniform, follow the Brookfields Curriculum and are taught by Brookfields staff. They are based within The Grange and enjoy using their facilities such as the sensory room, MUGA, outdoor play space and where appropriate some children benefit from inclusion into other classes e.g. EYFS and the Resource Base. The children are also welcomed into activities being enjoyed by the primary pupils at The Grange such as musical performances.

The pilot project has to date been very successful and has had lots of benefits to both schools; for example: -

o   True partnership working as staff at all levels have supported each other in the development of the provision

o   The development of inclusive practice as children have had the benefit of a range of experiences

o   School to school support as staff at The Grange have benefitted from the specialist knowledge and expertise of Brookfields Staff

o   The development of a learning space that is beneficial to all pupils

The development of the Foxes Class at The Grange has been a project to be celebrated and a valuable example of collaborative, inclusive practise between 2 schools (a special school and a mainstream through age provision), 2 MATS and Halton Borough Council.
