Basic Skills Award Success

30th September 2015

Today we have had our assessment for Basic Skills award re-accreditation. The Basic Skills Quality Mark is an award that celebrates and supports continuous improvement in literacy and numeracy.

It is awarded to a setting or school to recognise their provision, practice and performance in literacy and numeracy, and is valid for three years.

A school or setting must demonstrate a whole school approach to improving standards in literacy and numeracy, with evidence of the impact of its approaches.

It provides a framework for self-evaluation and continuous improvement of the basic skills of all pupils in a school.

During the visit our assessor undertook a learning walk around school, met key staff, parents, Governors and therapy staff. She also spent a good length of time scrutinising our documentation and pupil books etc to ensure that everything we included in our self-evaluation audit was accurate.

I am delighted to say that we were successful and will receive the award again. The assessor described practice at the school as excellent and that she was struck from the outset by the atmosphere of the school and the commitment and passion of all of the staff to ensuring the best for the pupils.

Well done to all of our staff and pupils!
